Problem: I have installed StyleWriter but cannot find the StyleWriter button in Word’s toolbar or in the Tools menu.

Reason: The installation program usually selects components for the word processor versions it finds on your computer. When you installed StyleWriter, the installation program may not have found the version of Word you have, or you may have inadvertently deselected the component group for it.

*Solution: To solve this problem and correct the installation you need the template SW_AddIn.dot in Word’s Startup directory.
*Note: Solution for Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002 or Word 2003

1. First, see if SW_AddIn.dot has been installed on your computer.
Click the Windows Start button, move up to Find and click Files or Folders…

2. Type “SW_AddIn.dot” in the Named: field, check that the Look in: field shows the drive where your programs are installed, and click Find Now.

If it found SW_AddIn.dot, go to step 7, otherwise go to step 3 to run the installation program again.

3. Close Word and rerun setup.exe from StyleWriter setup disk 1.

4. When the installation program reaches the Select Components window,

Select MS Word Files and click the Change… button.

5. In the Select Sub-components window, select the version of Word you have

and deselect those you do not have, then click Continue.

6. As the installation continues, it may or may not give you the following message.

Click the Yes button to install the macros. If this message appears, SW_AddIn.dot will be installed to C:\SWWIN\WordDocs\.

7. To find Word's Startup directory, open Word and go to the Tools/Options… dialog.
Select the File Locations tab, then the Startup entry. If you cannot see the full name, click Modify… to display the full path, but do not change it.

8. Find SW_AddIn.dot (use steps 1 and 2 again if necessary), and using Windows Explorer, move it to the Word Startup directory you found in step 7.

9. To check SW_AddIn.dot is now in Word's Startup folder, close Word then reopen Word, go to the Tools menu and select Templates and Add-Ins….

The list box should include SW_AddIn.dot with a tick in the box.

You should now see the StyleWriter toolbar and button next to Word’s toolbar and the Style Check menu item in Word's Tools menu.
